Local Woman Resigns From Self-Appointed Role
Self-appointed cultural spokesperson Yasmine Smith stepped down from her imaginary post yesterday on a live. After going viral for a few “hot takes” relevant to Black culture, Smith learned how to recreate a formula of agitation.
“Smith is part of a group of professional “yappers” who get their audience to conflate attention with authority. She rarely cites any sources and rarely engages with criticism in good faith,” said another creator wishing to remain anonymous.
Smith chose not to reply to this feedback. “While I feel called to step down from this platform, my collective can still find me on Substack and my GoFundMe — which is being suppressed!”
At press time, Smith had only raised $600 of her $10k goal. She cut off her live — mostly attended by people requesting refunds for undelivered merch — but not before promising to “shape young Black and Brown minds,” which a few commentators responded to with skull emojis, claiming the message felt like a “threat.”
Smith has not named a successor, and her followers have not received their refunds.
